TRENDING :: COLOR

APRIL 08, 2020 | CHICAGO, IL—

CHICAGO, IL—Today, we’re here to talk about color. We know, we know – shocking from a group of creative-minded architects! But when the Pantone 2020 Color of the Year was announced, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to talk about our favorite hue – blue. Sure, Pantone technically identified this trend and laid it right in our lap, but we couldn’t resist!

Let’s start with the facts. According to Pantone, PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue instills a sense of “dependability, trustworthiness, credibility, and constancy, all traits that are valued in the fast-paced, high-stress situations of the current world.” We couldn’t agree more! We’re facing a decade bursting with emerging technologies, a changing environment and plenty of uncertainty. With constant open lines of communication, we’re working harder and faster than previous generations (in some ways). There’s no better time to tap into a cooler color palette, known for triggering harmony and peace, and instilling a sense of organization and clarity into our lives.

One thing that has always inspired us about blue is the versatility of the color. Somehow, it remains classic while also fitting in well with contemporary design. Centuries ago, blue was reserved for the wealthy, considered to be just as precious as gold. As a result, the color fit in perfectly amongst the opulent design of royal households. Today, it pairs well with the clean lines of modern architecture while still maintaining a match for more traditional design.

When you’re incorporating the shade into design, it’s important to consider the color you pair it with. We love how Scandinavian’s always find a way to bring blue into their homes as the perfect accent to their first favorite color – white. If you’re trying to figure out a way to bring the color into your home, but are too intimidated to paint your walls, don’t hesitate to use it as an accent color instead. And while the official Pantone Color of the Year is a bolder blue, we’re fond of all shades of the color. You can use it to create a beachy, coastal vibe or pair with grey for a more contemporary look.

Take the plunge this year and let us know how it goes!
