THE POWER OF DESIGN

OCTOBER 22, 2020 | CHICAGO, IL—

CHICAGO, IL – Touted as an annual showcase of the power of design by its member base, the Association of Licensed Architects (ALA) has bestowed Myefski Architects with multiple honors for design concepts that the ALA describes as high-quality, creative, and diverse. Out of 98 entries, ALA has recognized MA with a Silver award for the Concert Hall design (above left) and a Merit award for the Goose Island design (above right).

Named | krə'SHen,dō |, the design concept for Vilnius, Lithuania's National Concert Hall rises from below, shatters the earth, fracturing the surface. The leading design idea was derived from broken shards that are frozen and elevated to form the roof lines. The transparent facade allows for life inside to be visible from the outside.

Reimagining a former furniture warehouse into a destination office experience decidedly involved a strong industrial style contracted against modern sustainability features such as solar panels and a green roof. Once four separate structures on Chicago's Goose Island, the design now expresses a dynamic spatial and structural intervention that utilizes a stunning glass atrium to showcase the tectonic qualities of the original brick facades.
