During the course of his career, Michael Karkowski has had the opportunity to work on a diverse range of project types, including educational buildings, residential developments, commercial offices and medical facilities. As an Architect with 21 years of experience, his primary role is as a team leader, coordinating and managing all aspects of the design and construction process. His goal is to achieve client satisfaction through consistent communication, collaboration and thoughtful attention to detail. His approach is intuitive and pragmatic, focusing on the technical aspects of design and environmentally responsible, sustainable design principles. He is preoccupied with centerlines and making building elements align; everything is better if it aligns with something else.
Michael is a Chicago native, with previous work experience at Booth Hansen Associates and Serena Sturm Architects. He is a Licensed Architect in Illinois and California, holds a certificate from the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, is a LEED Accredited Professional, City of Chicago Registered Energy Professional and a CSI Certified Documents Technologist. Michael holds a Master of Architecture degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Illinois in Champaign. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects, the Construction Specifications Institute, USGBC Illinois Chapter member and a Professional Member of the Passive House Alliance, Chicago Chapter.
Mike spends his remaining free time with his wife and daughter, and has occasionally been seen patching plaster walls in his vintage Mount Prospect home. Now and then, he tries to squeeze in a little late-night hockey.
